Wikipedia tells me that they were published in Canada and Great Britain December 1884, and on February 18, 1885 in USA.

I believe Scifan is not wrong on this because, although it was published in England in December 1884, there is a geographical consideration to take into account. It was published in the US in Feb 1885, a matter of a mere 2 months later. Although there was the obvious affiliation between Canada and England when a British publication was announced in London Dec '84, the February '85 Publication in the US would have been the more practical and expedient one given the geographical and communications proximity of US and Canada, where publishing houses had a close affiliation.
