[Personal] Review of ZAGGmate (Bluetooth Keyboard/Case)

Never really thought about it, but you guys are right, I almost NEVER use the CAPS LOCK key...

Although, what would you put in it's place? Everyone is so used to not using that key! :-)

On my Windows computers that key is always mapped to ctrl just as it was in the original PC. My text editor of choice for programming is EMACS and it makes extensive use of the ctrl key, as do the programs that I write.

Ufortunately, the iPad doesn't let you change the mapping for any keys at the moment. Apple is always adding features with each new update, so it may come eventually. I think what people would love is a way to map keys to specific apps. A dedicated key to get to Safari, or something like that, sure would be nice.

I get a email that my zaggmate has shipped on 4/11. YAY!

It's set to arrive on 4/19. (Seems like a while, but that's what free shipping will you get you..still YAY!

I track it this morning and it's out for delivery YAY!

Track it this afternoon and I see "First Attempt Made" NOOOOOO!!!!!!

Why was I not told that a signature was required?! I would have chosen a different shipping address!

Oh well...what's one more day I guess. Good thing I'm using my BF's Apple BT keyboard.

*End of rant*

I just got my zaggmate (a.k.a. Logitech blah-blah by Zagg) today. It seems like it's working fine. However, I'm a little bit worried about the rubber stuff that keeps the iPad.

1) Is it reliable? Can it safely keep the iPad in plave even when the iPad's back is looking at the ground?
2) Is it reliable in terms of keeping the iPad after let's say a year of use? Rubber isn't the most tought material ever and it definitely looses it's strength in time.
3) Does it leave anything on the iPad and does it affect iPad's surface somehow?
4) What about the 'dock' that you put the iPad on - it looks like a kind of cheap plastic. Somebody expirienced any problems with it?

Cheers,
Murry

1. VERY reliable. It's keeps the ipad in place just fine (at least the iPad 1)
2. I've owned my Zaggmate for quite a few months now and have not noticed any wear and loss of strength with the rubber-like material (it's NOT normal rubber, if it's rubber at all). It seems to go back to it's original shape and "density" no matter what you do. I've never had any issues with the material coming off of the aluminum case either...
3. Never had it leave anything on the iPad like discoloration or anything like that.
4. The "dock" is just fine, trust me - it doesn't support much weight at all... I use it all day every day - not a single issue...

Hope that helps!!

The material holding in the iPad is a special material used in precision parts. It is used alot in the aircraft industry. It doesn't compress over time like most materials. We tried several different materials before we settled on this. The hinge that holds up the iPad is surprisingly strong, but any moving part like that can be broken if treated harshly. Because of this, we opted to make it "break-away" so if it ever does break, we send you a new one and you can replace it very easily.

I don't think it actually grips the iPad if you put it in face up, if that's what you're asking. If you're asking if it will hold it in place when you turn the whole thing over with the iPad in place, it sure seems to! My biggest problem with it is getting it to let go of the iPad when I want to get it out :)

Yet it's used all of the time in applications that have to deform/rebound many, many times. I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it's not delaminating but I don't think you need to worry about the gasket material losing it's spring.

Do you mean the 'hinge'? I have my own doubts about how frequently it will take being folded/unfolded but for the moment I'm willing to accept that it will handle it as often as it needs to.

Yes guys, sorry that my words aren't precise enough, english is not my native language. Thanks for the responses!

@ZAGG, about the part replacement policy - is this valid when the ZAGGMate is purchased from the USA but it needs to be replaced in other country? My home country is Bulgaria and I'm just visiting in the US for two months and if anything happens with the zaggmate (logitech blahblah by zagg) I need to get the replacement parts in Bulgaria.

to ZAGG: hello, I made today my preorder for Zaggmate. What shipping date seems to you to be most possible? Thanks in advance. Michael from Greece.

mtsant21 I believe ZAGG's answer was for me.

One more question! Does the new zaggmate has the smart-cover styled magnets? Seems like it does and the smart-cover setting for the iPad two works also with the ZAGGMate. Am I right or it's just a coincidence?

Sorry, my post about mailing anywhere was in response to the previous post by murryivanoff. WHEN we will ship yours is in the next couple days.

Yes. We have a magnet in there for smart cover like performance. By the way, this feature can be enabled or disabled within the iPad settings.

Great. That's a cool feature, maybe you should point it out it on your website. And my next question - you've mentioned something about InvisibleShield for ZAGGMate a few days ago but there's still nothing on your website. Are you guys going to make some 'combo' with InvisibleShield for ZAGGMate & iPad 2 (front and back). I would definitely go for it.
