Photo album question

I just bought the new iPad air, upgrading from the first iPad.
Am really enjoying it and trying to learn all the tricks.

Tonight I learnt how to male a new album, so I did this for example...I have an album called grandchild and I put all my
Granddaughter photos in it.
Now it tells me that I cannot delete these photos from my imported photos without them automatically being deleted from the granddaughters album.

So I have them now in two places, so I assume taking up more of my GB.
Is this right or am I reading something wrong.

The album you created is just a short cut to thoses photos there not duplicates.
