Playing avi movies on iPad 3

Oh wow, it's this thread again. Blast to the past. Anyways, for older devices I agree it's better to convert. However with newer devices AVplayer HD can easily play mkvs natively without converting. That's how I've been doing it all this time. Only in a few instances where some anime are using some higher bitrate or quality (I don't even know what it is) does the playback speed suffer even on the ipad air, but for most things avplayer HD can play it all natively without converting.
 
VLC has played every video I've thrown at it, including AVI and MKV. It's the only third-party player on my iPad, and the only player I ever use.
