Hey, I'm of to America on Sunday and am flying on two planes to get there so I am wanting a portable charger but I need it by Sunday which means nipping to a shop. Does anyone recommend any charges and know any shops such as currys and pc world that will sell them?

Cheers
Ben

Have you considered using a plug adaptor with your regular charger. The iPad charger can handle any voltage from 100-250 volts, all you need is the proper plug adaptor for U.S. plug sockets.

Yeah but on the plane there is no plug sockets
If you want to keep using your iPad for the whole flight, you may need a portable battery pack. The charging cord from your iPad plugs into it and the power pack recharges your iPad battery. Several companies, such as Mophie, make them.

Would a 5000mha battery pack do?
you din't say what kind of iPad you have, but that should recharge an iPad 3 battery about half way. The iPad 3 battery is rated at 11,560mAh. That would give you a total run time of 12-14 hours, depending on what you do with your iPad.

Edit: as you're likely using an iPad mini, which has a battery capacity of 4,440mAh, the power pack you mentioned should fully recharge the battery one time, giving a total Battery use time of up to 20 hours, depending on the type of use.

Hi Butch... - you should have provided much more information 'up front' to save some posts - plus, where is your location, i.e. hard to give advice in the time frame wanted w/o knowing? BUT, for myself, I have the battery pack below from Lumsing (excellent review HERE) - 11000mAh unit w/ multiple amp outputs - hope this may help 'in time' - :)

The planes usually have a connection point on the plane for you to plug your connector to. I often fly to Australia and I plug my iPad in as I'm using it :)

A lot of planes don't have outlets. To check: The Ultimate Guide to In-Seat Laptop Power Ports

On planes with outlets, I've also run into dead sockets in some seats, so I don't count on having a working one. Maybe your seat mates would let you borrow theirs in that case, but I also wouldn't count on that.

Personally, I usually sleep for at least part of a long flight, so I don't ever need more than 10 hours of battery life. And I don't look at any one device for that long a time.
