My ipad2 won't switch when I rotate it. I made sure the lock switch was'nt locked already. Any other help with this?
Thanks!

Check that you've not accidentally swithced the Mute switch function to a soft switch in the multi-task bar. Double tap the Home button to open the multi-task bar and then check the soft switch at the far left of the multi-task bar. It's interchangeable with the 'hard' switch near the volume control (you can set which one is which in the 'Settings' menu)

Yes,we had noted that in another thread and the rotate
Lock is off. This is my son's new month old iPad 2....

I would first set everything back to default. Go into settings-general and then scroll down to the Use Side Switch to: and select Mute. Then I would do what Tim suggested, double press the home button twice to bring up the multi task bar, then swipe that bottom bar from left to right to bring up the video controls and make sure the volume icon on the far left does not have a slash through it and the volume level on the right is set at about 50%. Then press the home button to close the multi task bar. Make sure the slide button above the volume rocker is in the up position so that the device is not muted. Now I would do a reboot by holding down the home button and power button at the same time until the device powers itself off (about 5-7 seconds). Let it sit for about 20 seconds then power the iPad back on which take a little while. If that doesn't fix it then you can either try a restore or take it into Apple.

In addition to all this, some apps just don't rotate. They are built to be in portrait or landscape - and you can never rotate that app. For example, Words With Friends is always in portrait mode (with the home button down) no matter what you do or what the iPad settings are. It's just the way some developer's create their apps.

Just to throw that thought into the mix...

Will restarting my iPad delete all the apps and information I have collected?

I also did all these steps and my wwf will not go horizontal as it always had.

This thread is over two years old.

If you've recently updated to iOS 7, pull up the Control panel and look for the lock/rotate icon there. Try turning it on and off. This seems to have fixe most people rotation problems with the update.

Like the previous instructions, the icon in the Control Panel will either be a Mute or Lock switch, depending on your side switch settings in Settings > General.

If it's only that one app, it is possible that the app broke in the update and the developer's have not fixed it yet. Take a look at the develper's website to see if they mention any issues with iOS 7.

I'm also having the same problem with Words with Friends. I've tried everything and can't get back to the landscape mode. :(

At this point I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the app itself. It's mentioned in a few places on the web. You'll just have to wait for an update; though going to the developer's support page and filling out a support form might convince them it's a hot issue.
