Receive notification of e-mail in sleep mode?

Is it possible to set an I-pad so that it will notify you when you receive an e-mail even when it is in sleep mode?

Will beep once when you receive email, that's the best you can do unless theres an app that does it.

So, it will definitely beep upon receipt of an e-mail even if it is in sleep mode? I haven't bought an I-pad yet, so I can't check. If this function is available, I will probably go out and buy one this week - this is an important function for me...

Yes as long as you haven't muted it.

I often find me picking up the iPad because the notification beeped, then getting lost playing a game or surfing without even bothering to check the email it's like a reminder from the ipad 'I'm here pick me up and play with me!'
