Removed My Best Buy Reserve & Ordered From Apple

Yup, found out that the Best Buy where i had my IPAD 2 reserved finally got another shipment of IPAD 2's, but mine was not among them.

I've already been waiting over a week, so after talking with an Apple rep i just decided to order it directly from apple, that way i could order the smart cover at the same time.

The rep said despite news releases of Apple having slowed production of IPAD 2's because of the crisis in japan....

She said that won't begin to happen for another month, between now and then Apple plans on making and shipping thousands of IPAD 2's.

So i just ordered it from them and now at least i can check the status of my order from day to day.

Probably a good move. I stopped in at Best Buy on my lunch break today and picked up a poly cover. I can stare at it while i await my iPad2 which is now a pile of parts somewhere in China (let's hope) to be delivered in like a month or so.

anyway, the local BestBuy stopped taking the $100 reservations because they had already taken more reservations than they realistically expected to receive units for quite some time to come.

Maybe i can get my old Handspring Visor working and paint an Apple logo on the back

Direct quote from a Best Buy employee to me yesterday:

"Apple only sends us 6 iPads at a time. We currently have a waiting list of over 150 people in our store, alone."

So yeah, don't order from them or expect them to deliver any time son.

I'm not sure that's safe to say.....but I sure hope it is!

why did you remove the BB preorder? Why not just keep it there, that way if it came in sooner than you are able to get one. I preordered one from BB last Wednesday, picked up one on Target Friday, and got a call today that my preorder was in.

I bought a 64gb wifi white from Target, and I reserved a 32 gb wifi white from BB.

wait, why would you say that?? did i miss something? i certainly hope it's true. I wasn't able to order it until last saturday bc i hadn't received my income taxes yet 4-5 weeks will feel like an eternity. Please tell me you have reason to expect shipments sooner...

Went into local BB today to put my name on the list. The bad news: they stopped taking deposits for future shipments. The good news: they just got in a shipment. Walked out with my new black, 32g, WiFi/3G iPad2. Excellent day!!

That is pretty epic. Why weren't they holding them all for pre-orders?

They had some Verizon 3G models that were't spoken for on their reserved list..... I was a happy camper.

I think thats true that apple hold back IPad 2s and send only a few to other merchants.

I got a notification (they dont do preorder in Germany before release date) from a gravis shop which is one of the best apple partners out here, but they said they dont know how much IPads 2s they will get from apple.

I think i wont preorder from gravis then, better stay up the night and make one of the first orders at the apple site will be a better option imho.

Maybe also wait in line and watch with IPhone and 3G hows the online order doing, when getting one in line canceling the order.

Charging Credit card

When you order from Apple, do they charge your credit card immediately, or post the charge the day they ship it? If my card get charged upon order, then they are using my account for x weeks? Looking for reality info.
