So I am thinking about getting an ipad2. I was all set to put my order in at the apple store when I came across things online, saying the ipad 3 will be out in the fall.
I dont know if its true or not but now I am on the fence. What do you guys think?

it would make no sense for apple to come out with a ipad3 when they havent made all the money they can on the ipad2... why make something new when the current product is still sold out and in great demand

I've been a fan of apple gadgets for years and from my experience they would only release a new version of a certain device yearly.

Sent from my iPad

Couldn't have said any better so if you have patience(and already own ipad1) you could wait ;)

for some reason i am very patient when it comes to most electronics and waiting for an upgrade, such as i have not bought gaming console myself since ps2 but for some reason i just have to have the newest apple stuff.

Not to mention i dont own an ipad 1, i was a couple weeks away from getting one when the ipad2 was announced.

any why is the ipad3 so popular with everyone? why not wait for the 4 or 5??

buy what you can today, else you'll always be waiting and wanting. stuff is updated all the time anyway, so whatever you buy wont stay current for too long.

that is the worst part about electronics. Buy it and the technology will be outdated within 6 months.

The best plan for me is to do the "every other." Meaning i will get the ipad 2 skip the 3 and then get the 4.

This is madness. Madness I tell you.

Buy it if you want it.
It's only been out for a couple of months so it will have a resale value when you want to upgrade.

I think that the screen is the nubmer one thing I would like to see upgraded in a future version of iPad, and according to the rumors I read (no, sorry, don't remember the source) Samsung won't be able to deliver retina displays until 2014.

Do if you like the iPad 2 buy it, if it's not good enough, wait :)

I dont have any ipad at all right now.

I know that like all electronics a newer better version is to follow. I just always want newest/best when i buy.

I think I may just go with the ipad 2, as googling ipad 3 comes up with as many not a chance hits about the ipad 3 in fall as it does saying it is coming.

Now just need to decide on a size. thinking the 32gb. 16gb seems to small

I am amused by all this the entire IT industry updates average every 12 weeks that is new models or speed bumps. Major upgrades like processor changes such as the new Intel Sandy Bridge processors is major change usually every 2 years. operating systems also upgrade every year with major upgrades every 3 years. When some one purchases a computer in many cases they upgrade every 2 to 3 years this cycle is due to finance and leases for computers run average 3 years, home users average is 4 years per upgrade. In business many users have no choice to upgrade as in most cases it is software upgrades that will dictate it. In the graphic arts, Cad, and digital photography or digital Video production it is essential to to upgrade as it will with out question improve productivity.

When one looks at iPods, iPhones and iPads what you find is a different culture regard upgrading. First of all with Apple most change of models are every year. If you purchase any one of the above outright many will upgrade yearly or at least every 2 years. One reason is that unlike Mac OS and Windows applications usually are not the reason a customer upgrades it is more about new performance and features or the so called COOL product effect.

The iPad is unique when you purchase the iPad one can expect a high resale value when you sell say 10 months down the track. Example I paid Australian dollars May 2010 $750 for an iPad 32 wifi I sold that iPad for $450 net Australian on eBay just before the release of iPad 2 My cost of ownership was $300 for 10 months or $30 dollars a month or $1 dollar per day. When I replaced my iPad with iPad 2 in Australia at least the cost came down by $100 because of the dollar exchange rate hit $1.2 us dollars for $1 aust dollar. The other factor is warranty the new iPad has another 12 months warranty.

The point of this post is simple hop on the train now as the cost of travel ( purchase of ipad 2 ) for 1 year will be $1 dollar per day to own the latest in technology Compared to owning a laptop and or a PC tower it is a small however it will give YOU personal pleasure and enjoyment that you would not have if you choose not to buy..... Of course this is different if you are on contracts with service providers.

Just for the record for new members my back ground is Specialist Solutions Apple reseller Australia (VAR in USA) since 1993 and currently employed in a major retail chain in Australia selling a full range of Windows computers and Apple i products so my information is from experience not from some News broadcast.

from past experience, the product cycle of the more recent iphones and with the ipad is that they release new upgrades every year. the ipad 2 has yet to fully flex its new muscles so it would be very unusual and surprising to see if apple announced an ipad 3 to be released this fall. i would guess the chances are slim to none that the ipad 3 gets release this year.

get an ipad 2 and enjoy it.

I can't speak for everyone here, but the iPad screen is pretty eye poping. Not sure how much more retina displays would look.

Not sorry I recently purchased my first iPad rather then wait another 10 months for the iPad3.

If you do a little research u will find that the original article of this rumor was dated 1apr.

April fools.....a month later.
