Would there be an ipad 2 s before they release a 3rd gen?

Possible, But looks highly unlikely. Somebody here pointed out a very good observation with the past few trends that Apple has been following, based on that it looks very unlikely they will have iPad-2S like for e.g for iPhone it has always been iPhone-3, iPhone-3GS, iPhone-4, iPhone-4S for iPad it has been iPad, iPad-2 so following this trend it looks unlikely that they will have iPad-2s

One of the "experts" that has a good reputation with forecasting is saying that they expect the new iPad to be called something like the iPad HD because of the higher resolution display. I still think the iPad 3 is a strong possibility. Their other predictions were A6 dual core, not quad core, and a maybe not on 4G. It goes to show that Apple is real good about keeping secrets.

It would be logical. iPad 2 is selling well, they would not sacrifice it.
