More iPad 2 rumours have surfaced from DigiTimes today, with AppleInsider reporting that DigiTimes has tapped into market rumours floating around Taiwan that a Taiwanese company called Largan Precision has been chosen by Apple as the sole supplier of lens modules for the next version of the iPad, which DigiTimes is predicting will start shipping as early as the first quarter of 2011. Largan has neither confirmed nor denied the stories, unsurprisingly. Apple never reveals official details about individual iPad and iPhone component makers, but Largan has been previously mentioned as a possible manufacturer of 5-megapixel lenses for the iPhone 4.
As AppleInsider reports, there have long been rumours about the next iPad having at least one, possibly two, cameras, but this is the first time that an actual company has been named as a supplier. Following the news, Largan’s share price rose by 5.6% on the Taiwan Stock Market.
