Despite their very public differences, many of which have been fought out in the courtrooms of California and beyond, it seems according to a new report from DisplaySearch via CNET today, which says that Apple and Samsung are still very much bound together by the iPad.
The new report says that Samsung Display has once again become Apple’s top iPad display panel supplier, with 5.2 million 9.7-inch 2,048x1,536 resolution iPad panels shipped in Q1 of 2014. This figure is 62% of total shipments for that specific display size and resolution.
In contrast, LG Display’s share of the same size and resolution iPad display panels fell sharply to 38% in Q1 of 2014, a big drop from 61% in Q4 2014.
And it looks like Apple and Samsung will continue to be partners way into the future, with CNET saying that Samsung may still be up for consideration as one of Apple’s processor producers alongside the favoured TSMC.
VLSI Research reported that Samsung could even make Apple’s forthcoming A8 processor, and subsequent processors after that.
