The latest rumors suggest that Samsung is actually going to build Apple's secret new chip for the Apple Watch. This "secret" chip will be an S1 system-in-package (SiP) and will contain various components built-into Samsung’s design. This includes mobile DRAM, NAND flash, and a few other peripheral chips. Supposedly, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering is providing the SiP modules.
Here's a quote with a few more details,
Samsung has won orders from Apple to make some 3,000 to 4,000 12-inch wafers each month, using its 28nm process technology, with the Apple Watch expected to launch at some point in March.
The Apple Watch is expected to become another important revenue source for Apple, though analysts disagree on the device’s sales performance in its first year.
What do you guys think? Will Apple be able to hit high sell-through numbers with the Apple Watch?
