9to5 Mac reports today that 2K and Firaxis’ new interstellar strategy game, Sid Meier’s Starships, will be coming to iPad very soon, as well as PC and Mac. The game represents the extension of Sid Meier’s ever-popular Civilization universe, following on from the recent Civilization: Beyond Earth.
In the game the player takes on the role of a fleet commander after the Age of the Seeding, leading their starship across the universe, defending planets against aggressors, building their empire, and attempting to bring peace to the galaxy.
Combat is turn-based, and gameplay features customizable starships and dynamically generated missions.
Aside from being a continuation of the Civilization: Beyond Earth universe, there will also be deep integration between the two games, according to 2K, which says that Starships will “enhance and expand the depth of both game experiences.”
“When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth. What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?” said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games. “My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”
