If you’ve taken a glance at the Games App charts lately then you might have noticed that a game called Smash Cops has been sweeping the board at the top of the iPhone and iPad charts all over the world, in countries such as the US, Canada, Australia and the UK. Time for celebration indeed for newly formed London-based game development studio, Hutch, who’s Technical Director Sean Turner had the following to say about the game’s success:
If you’ve not yet had a look at Smash Cops, the game uses innovative new push controls using a single finger to control and steer cars in a way that is natural and fun for gamers, as well as being accessible for casual players. In the game, you take on the part of the titular “Smash Copsâ€, or to put it more prosaically, you play as police, taking part in America’s wildest TV chases, smashing felons off the road in a large, free-roaming and beautifully rendered city, with aerial coverage of the pursuit. Players also get to collect stars to access new areas and cars, and the action takes place across 20 missions in 5 different vehicles. “With Smash Cops we've given players an action driving experience that was designed from the ground up for a touch screen device. Using our experience of developing console racing games we took a risk with a completely new control method that we feel is much more intuitive and suitable for touch devices. I was fairly certain that we had made something unique and genre changing, but until you release a game you can never be 100% sure that you are on the right track. We are thrilled and relieved that the game has sold so well so far. We want to keep the momentum going and so are working hard on new content.â€
