Snapchat announced via the Snapchat blog the launch of a new service,Snapcash, which was created in partnership with Square, makers of Square Cash.
“We loved it [Square Cash] so much that we wanted to create something with them that felt Snapchat-y,” said Snapchat. “So we built a Snapcash prototype and shared it with the team at Square. Luckily for us, they were just as excited as we were and wanted to build it together.”
All you have to do if you want to use Snapcash to send funds to someone directly via the Snapchat app is enter your debit card details, which will then be stored by Square. Then, when you want to send someone money, simply swipe into chat, type the dollar sign, followed by an amount, and then click on the green button to send your payment.
Snapchat reassures users that Square has ensured that the payment method is secure, which is, of course, of paramount importance in such an app.
Snapcash is currently only available to Snapchatters in the U.S. who have a debit card and are over 18 years of age.
