If the start of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa has caused you to crave a football/soccer game for your iPad, Gameloft’s Real Football 2010 HD might be a good way to kick off, especially as it’s currently reduced in the iPad App store at $4.99/£2.99. The game features 245 teams, up to 8 leagues, and real player names courtesy of the FIFPro license. The iPad’s big screen really lends itself to games such as this, of course, as does the control system, which enables you to tilt the iPad to throw the ball into play from the touchline, use the touch screen to easily change your offensive/defensive strategy during the match, or to easily select your player.

14 stadiums entirely modelled in 3D are featured in the game, and every player and environment has been completely redrawn to take full advantage of the iPad’s superior graphics.

In International Cup mode, players have the chance to head up teams from Spain, Brazil and France (three of the favourites to win the real World Cup), and play as some of the most famous soccer players in the world, such as England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Game modes on offer include local multiplayer via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, where you can go head-to-head with your mates, Enter the Legend, where you can play as your favourite player for a whole match and manage your own professional football career, and Club Master, which enables you to guide your favourite team through a whole season, including trading players to strengthen your squad. The app also has the facility to download the most recent player database to ensure that the game is up-to-date with the most recent transfer news in the real world of football, and there’s even a Football RSS feed to keep you informed on all the latest football news.

Favourite replays can also be uploaded directly to YouTube from the app, where it can then be rated by other fans, and might even make the Top 10 videos for the month.

With all that going on, looks like a solid bargain at the reduced prices.
