Super Mario Run will require online connection to play.JPG

Super Mario Run creator Shigeru Miyamoto has been talking to Mashable, via 9to5 Mac, about the forthcoming game featuring his most famous Nintendo creation. During the interview, Miyamoto commented that Super Mario Run will require a persistent internet connection in order to work. Of course this is not exactly unusual in the world of iOS gaming these days, but what is a little unusual is the reason that Miyamoto gave to Mashable about why the game must be always connected to the internet when playing. According to Miyamoto, Nintendo is worried about the game being pirated users with jailbroken devices if it is available to play offline.

“For us, we view our software as being a very important asset for us,” said Miyamoto. “And also for consumers who are purchasing the game, we want to make sure that we’re able to offer it to them in a way that the software is secure, and that they’re able to play it in a stable environment.

We wanted to be able to leverage that network connection with all three of the modes to keep all of the modes functioning together and offering the game in a way that keeps the software secure. This is something that we want to continue to work on as we continue to develop the game.”

So it looks like Super Mario Run, just as with Pokémon Go, could be very heavy on your data usage when away from home. Maybe some of the carriers will start to offer special Super Mario Run data packages to get around the issue.
