Taking video of oneself with iPad Mini

Hi, all.

I've tried to make videos of myself playing the ukulele with my new iPad mini. However I'm having a few issues. Using the rotating case and stand which I bought when I purchased the device,I can get it into a position where I can make videos. However, this is not as simple as it seems at first. I am having a few issues with actually orientating the Camera high enough to have myself in short and not the bookshelf behind me, it seems to be aiming too high. Nor am I entirely satisfied with the quality of the on board mic. Can I change the level, as I would be able to on PC?

Sorry if this has been raised before.

Take care,

Casey

Unfortunately, you are "stuck" with the way the iPad Mini orientates it's camera. You'll just have to try to put it into the best position using whatever comes to hand. Sorry.

And, there is also nothing to do with the microphone. The only thing I can think of there is to get an external microphone (that works with the Mini) and see how that works.

Sorry to not be of better assistance.

Marilyn

Thanks, Marilyn.

I thought it might be that way

Hi Casey - I'll have to agree w/ Marilyn's comments, i.e. there are limitations. Now, I'm not sure which camera you are using, but the back one has the much better resolution and the microphone is also located on the upper back - however, might not make much difference?

Regarding an external microphone, there are plenty shown on Amazon HERE at wildly varying prices - I've never used one so cannot verify that your sound recording would be improved - hopefully others w/ some experience will 'chime in' - good luck! Dave :)

Thankfully, when I managed to get the video onto YouTube, I noticed a significant improvement in my setup. Now, I just need to find an idiot proof way of raising the iPad to my eye level. I have been reading up on the mounts, but can't find anything as yet that I would be confident operating. That might be another topic, though. Thanks for all your help so far!
