The "Anything Goes" thread

So agree! Women in general aren't very good at taking advice/criticism very well. I've left a message on her wall and hope she doesn't take offence. There's nothing like simple eating and exercise to really make a difference. It's the quick fixes which mess us up. We just pile on the pounds afterwards as we think once we have lost the weight, there is no need to watch it but that is when we are in the most vulnerable position of regaining what we have lost. I'm good at maintaining but not losing it. I've lost 4kg so far but purely from sensible eating and exercise. Zumba and walking the dog/horse.

Hayley, can you encourage your friend to join the ITV "The Biggest Loser" website. They have a sensible regime of exercise and diet.

You don't have to look far to get the bad news about hCG. You can refer your friend to the webMD app for iPad.
hCG is covered quite thoroughly. Bottom line, creating a hormonal imbalance to trick your body's metabolism then restricting caloric intake to as little as 500 a day, is a tragedy waiting to happen.

I wish the app would let you visit the site as well; it seems to only be a reference for meds, illnesses, etc. very strange.

To all my friends, this is an urgent appeal. A friend of mine has started a diet plan using HCG. I've looked this up and Wikipedia says the FDA have banned this and says its not safe to use. I fear for my friend as she can't have researched this plan. Please allay my fears and tell me if anyone knows of this diet and if it's safe for her to use.

Oh god, not HCG, its the worst kind of weight loss, it might get results quick but its not a total cure, just short term benefits with long term risks

Update on my friend - apparently it was a scam on her Facebook account - no idea why. Will find out tomorrow. Panic over. So glad it wasn't true. I wondered why I didn't know about this. Let's hope it brings knowledge to anyone reading this that there is no substitute to sensible eating and exercise.

Oh you went for it then! I hadn't seen or remembered that you had it. Is it worth it?

For me it is because I don't have a cable or satellite TV subscription. Just high speed (Bell) internet, $68 per month. Internet and wireless data rates are scandalously high in Canada because of the small population base. Combined with Netflix - $7.99 per month
and Zune over xBox Live, $59.00 annual subscription plus pay per view, I have plenty of access for somewhat reasonable cost.

Additionally, CBC, Global, CTV and CityTv - the main TV networks in Canada - have Free apps for iPad 2, that access quite a bit of current content (including UK Law & Order) no charge.

Another UK show I've just started watching on Netflix is "MI-5". So far so good. I wish Netflix would post the last 3 seasons of "Waking The Dead".
Thats a fabulous show. Although I miss the characters "Mel" played by Claire Goose and "Frankie" played by Holly Aird.

Wow! So in total. How much do spend on tv? I'd have to look up what I spend and I expect it would be a lot more than I would be comfortable with. Gulp! On second thoughts, let's not go there! I spend way too much on these devices, laptop and wifi.

I'd still like to know why her account was scammed. A bit worrying that. I almost cancelled FB, Richard. I have a problem with FB as I work at a school and this clashes with privacy and student safety issues. I don't friend current students but that doesn't stop them trying to access me through other friends. I may still cancel it. I can see benefits but disadvantages far outway it sometimes.

Hmm! BT Internet total Broadband and phone £79 a month. Never mind the two iPhones which come to £60 a month. Heck. That is a lot! For me anyway. I can't afford any other tv apps. Thank god I live in the UK. The TV here is amazing.
