The "Anything Goes" thread

Another piece of publishing history is in the news. The Dandy comic may cease publication in paper form and go online. The comic is about 75 years old.

We could say that Dan is really desperate! :D

I don't know the comic, but it's sad when the paper form goes. There's something about a book that works all the senses---the feel of the paper, the smell, etc. I do read ebooks, but I still buy hard copy too.

Sad to hear about The Dandy comic. I loved reading my brothers annuals

Same here. Both Dandy & Beano.
We got up early when the comics were due with the papers & we pounced--first grabbed, first served!!

Wonder how the online version will get on? Might be very successful. Makes me want to go have a look...:-)

Alright, I'll jump in randomly. Hi leelai, mollysmom, Hayles66, Admiral and all of my old Anything Goes friends. :)

Hi GoPackGo. I'm glad to see your prospects are bright. By coincidence there was a discussion on the radio about vocational work for free - work experience which often led to those in the schemes being offered paid jobs with the forms they were "apprenticed" to. It was interesting. However some view the schemes as slave labour. No ts, the schemes are very good and positive.

BTW, did you see any of the Olympics? I ask because of your let's avatar.

There was lengthy discussion on Radio 2 about the Dandy. It was seen as a great way to encourage kids to read. I loved the Eagle with Dan Dare and his arch enemy, the Meakon. I loved the cut away drawings of engines, cars etc on the centre pages.

I kept my copies and had 2 years worth which were thrown out in the early 1969s when we moved house. Talk about the potential of trash to treasure. :)

Hi GoPackGo

Good to meet you! Many greetings from an ex-Inner-London-infant (5--7s) teacher.

Also reckoned your avatar meant "sporty" (but they can give misleading messages, as we've already found out:-))

The very best of luck with any school work you can grab. The more child-experience you can tuck under your belt now, the better & wider your chances & options later. As you know already:-)

Wail wail wail sob sob sob...same here:-(:-(. Thrown away by those dastardly, evil parents.
Used to pinch my brother's Eagle before our own equivalent "Girl".

BTW, think that green "Mekon" is/was spelt this way:-)

I loved the daily Rupert strip in the Daily Express (?), especially the illustrations. They had a strong influence on my interest in drawing. I even bought an annual a few months back:-) Bliss!

Yes, I watched the Olympics, though not as much as I would have liked. I particularly like diving, gymnastics, and running.

Despite the school year starting up soon my parents still insist I try to find a teaching job for this fall. that's so not gonna happen. I'm happy I got the tutoring job. It's better than nothing, and it's in a great school.

Nice to meet you too! I'm from Wisconsin and the Green Bay Packers are my team. Big NFL fan. :)

Did you put yourself on a sub list? Sometimes it gets you a foot in the door and there are long term sub gigs---maternity leaves, etc

In this market, you can't even get on a sub list unless you know someone. But I've definitely tried.

How very dare you.......lol!

Obviously you didn't read the instructions that came with your boyfriend, there should be some small print at the bottom which clearly clarifies that we men include a design improvement over the older female model that provides the ability to drive the latter insane! You must have accepted the terms and conditions when you took delivery of said boyfriend?
