The "Anything Goes" thread

Last weekend I saw this apple Bose computer in a shop, not for sale just display. It is from 1996 so definitely got slashed and burned along with newton when Steve jobs took over in 1997. Any one here familiar with this apple model? The guy said it used an old os but didn't know much else

This might be it.

Yes, ouch! I wonder what that is worth in today's money. I expect it's into 5 figures!

Remember when cell phones were first introduced? They cost several thousand dollars each and had only about 30 minutes talk time after an 8 hour charge.

Yup, I do remember. We called them bricks! :D

For a while Ford sold cars with fitted cell phones. The marketing gimmick didn't last for too long.

Back then cell phone weight was measured in pounds, not ounces!;)

I think this is the right thread for this.

AVAAZ has issued this warning: -

It can mean only one thing. George Lucas is creating a hologram of Steve Jobs and Apple will rule the planet.

So say we all. ;)

I just bought a commodore 128DCR off eBay for $199.00 and I will get it next week or so

I'm curious about the perceived value of old technology and what drives the premium paid for it.

You've mentioned you're a collector. What do you do with these pieces after acquiring them?

The BBC is running a series of programmes "Put your Money where your Mouth is" in which 2 antique dealers compete to earn as much profit as possible from items they buy with their own cash. Profits go to charity.

Can you see where this is leading?

Yesterday one dealer bought a box full of old hair cutting and beard trimming items, boxed. He had a customer in mind; a hairdresser who would probably display the antiques in his salon. The old kit was glorious. There was a "Britain Strop" boxed up, gold plated clippers etc. The customer commented "We now use electric, so what do I do with these?" the reply was about creating a great retro display. I think the collection was sold for £300. It was bought by the dealer for £100!

The trouble is, I remember similar clippers being used on me as a lad! :)
