Sorry Gabriel I missed your post here.
Washington state has numerous volcanos.

My niece is a volcanologist. She's presently stationed in the UK - teaching at Imperial College London.

Imperial College, nice.....not many volcanoes around London though.

Now, if I recall correctly, wasn't Mt St Helen's the biggie that went off a while back?

Yes. The big one, at least in modern times, was
in May, 1980.

We lived in southern Alberta then. We were on a camping trip in Waterton Lakes International Peace Park. It's located in the most southwestern part of Alberta, on the Montana border, opposite Glacier National Park.

The second morning after the eruption, we woke up to a coating of volcanic ash on everything. It was like a layer of fine dust.

The volcano most recently erupted in July 2008 but it was minor compared to the 1980 blast.

I was several hundred miles away from Mount St. Helens, anchored in Maple Bay, British Columbia and heard the explosion on that day in 1980.

Just a day at the beach.

That's fine tlbaker. As others have said before, the good and hopeful stories far far outweigh the sad ones. However, IMHO, it is important to be aware of the bad as well as the good - to get a balanced view of things.

We are reading that another storm is threatening NY. This time it will be coming in from the North East. I hope not.

Do you think those penguins are cold?

Nah.

They're Magellanic Penguins, native to coastal Argentina, Chile and the Falkland Islands. Some migrate as far north as Rio.

Home base is the Strait of Magellan which is how they got their name.

They'd look awfully cute with scarves, mittens and hats, though! :)

Sci...there must be an abundance of peanuts around your area! Every squirrel sports a peanut when they pose for the camera!! :)

We put out a pumpkin and Indian corn. The squirrels have loved it! You should see them run with the cob in their mouths. The kids loved watching them.
