Thank you Richard, you live in such a beautiful town. I was wondering what allotments are. Do people get extra gardens? We're they composers on all the plots?

These were so great I feel like I've had a nice morning walk.

Whoops,...composters

Thanks for your comments, Bobbi.

Allotments are rented at very cheap rates, usually from a local authority for growing vegetables or flowers. The ones I photographed are in a fairly large site, and are overseen by a committee of fellow users.

There are numerous rules and regulations which govern the type and size of building, such as greenhouses or sheds. Composting can be carried out on a communal basis, or on individual plots. Allot, emits are extremely popular and there can be a 2 or 3 year waiting list for a plot.

There have been numerous funny sketches about allotment holders and how they pass their time, such as those by the 2 Ronnies. Check out this video on YouTube:

Yes, thanks for your photos Richard. I do look forward to the changing seasons outside your house. We have just ordered compost, seed and plants for our veg garden this week. It should arrive next month. We used to have an allotment when we lived in town but now we have more land, we gave it up. It cost about a £1 a month. I expect London prices are way higher. ;(

I didn't have a camera with me :( but today I got to sit in the engine cab of a very large diesel electric train. I also got to see the engine running and the HUGE air compressor(s) that run off an extended driveshaft. The air system was continuously "puffing" but not the real loud sound you hear outside the engine doors by the trucks, but what seemed to be a fairly quiet relief popping about every 5-7 seconds. So neat!!

Hey guys! How about this snow? I shovelled it this afternoon.

Hi there Hayles. Thanks for your comments. Allotment rents in London - you will be surprised... £1.90 - £ 3.50 per week, depending on the plot size and location of the allotment site.

That's an awesome amount of snow scifan. You must be physically fit. With my back I would have to get in provisions and wait 'till the next spring thaw.dde03

It didn't come all at once, it accumulated over the last 2 months, with about half of it in the last day.

Recently, we have noticed more and more strange juxtapositions of news stories, TV ads etc.

For example... For a time, a national opticians chain, Specsavers, has run a commercial where a space shuttle crew lands at Luton Airport.

Then, the other day a cost comparison firm, Money Supermarket started a commercial where a lucky guy who saved on his house insurance "Feels epic" and joins a shuttle crew for a launch.

You've probably guessed what I'm leading up to. Yes, you are right. In an ad break, the money supermarket ad was directly followed by the Specsavers one! :D

Lol, if only they had cut to a view with that guy in glasses getting out of the space shuttle and going through customs at Luton!
