No sooner has it been all but confirmed today that the iPad mini will be launched by Apple in October, AppleInsider reports today that according to Macotakara, the new smaller iPad, which most of us have been calling “iPad mini†for the sake of convenience, will actually officially be called iPad mini. Macotakara’s source said that although this will be the new device’s official name, it will only have the “iPad†name printed on the back, similar to an iPod. AppleInsider also refers to the strange hole found in the back of recent iPod cases, and says that it has been speculated upon that the hole could be used for near-field communications (NFC) technology. Now while AppleInsider specifically refers to the iPod rather than the iPad, this could also be a possible explanation for the mysterious hole at the back of the latest iPad mini cases that appeared online yesterday.
