What's new

The London Olympics 2012

And with that I just he to post the full lyrics LOL, usually you only hear the short version.

Gay go up and gay go down, To ring the bells of London town.

Oranges and lemons, Say the bells of St. Clements.
Bull's eyes and targets, Say the bells of St. Margret's.
Brickbats and tiles, Say the bells of St. Giles'.
Halfpence and farthings, Say the bells of St. Martin's.

Pancakes and fritters, Say the bells of St. Peter's.
Two sticks and an apple, Say the bells of Whitechapel.
Pokers and tongs, Say the bells of St. John's.
Kettles and pans, Say the bells of St. Ann's.

Old Father Baldpate, Say the slow bells of Aldgate.
You owe me ten shillings, Say the bells of St. Helen's.
When will you pay me? Say the bells of Old Bailey.
When I grow rich, Say the bells of Shoreditch.

Pray when will that be? Say the bells of Stepney.
I do not know, Says the great bell of Bow.
Here comes a candle to light you to bed, Here comes a chopper to chop off your head.
Chop chop chop chop,The last man's dead!

That's a nice summary, Stranding. I'm enjoying watching. The lead car looks as if it has been loaned by Google Maps Streetview :)

I think a few London walks will emerge from the marathon route. The route is great for spotting landmarks.

The pace is pretty good. It took 34 odd mins to cover the first 10K. I wanted to compare this with the 10,000m men's finishing times. I had bought the Sunday Tomes which is usually A1 for stats - until now. No finishing times anywhere for yesterday's events. What a let down :( so I turned to the Sun on Sunday. Full of stats :)

Who needs TV when you can see it all through stranding's narrative. :)

That's what I've been saying. :-). Both stranding and Richard have given great Olympic reports. NBC should have hired them instead of some of the mopes that are reporting.

Wow, thank you so much Richard, AA, Ski & mollysmom for all your comments. So pleased if you are enjoying it:-).

And to darkangelwitch for all the words of "Oranges & Lemons". Had forgotten many of those verses, great to hear them again.

It also highlights one of the reasons for that new big bell made for the occasion, used in the opening ceremony and other times. Church bells are not only a major part of London's history but of the whole country too. Hence our mad breakfast-time bellorama on the opening day!! Bet that becomes something we pick & run with on other occasions, what do you reckon?

The city just looks SO stunning at this time, a great advert for such an "old & interesting" place (trying to be as brief as is possible!). Yes, Richard, agree that new walks covering that route would be excellent for seeing many of the ancient sights, but also for the newer ones too (Shard et al).

Ski, have you booked your ticket yet?

The racing is hotting up....uuurrrggghhh! The final stages of the sailing Battle of the Bay. Brit Ben v. Great Dane....

We've just got back from a 50 minute walk. Needed for health.

Your bells references Stranding, remind me of my seeing a bus conductor running after his route master bus, after a passenger had prbably pulled the bell cord twice to tell the driver to drive off. Ding ding. :D

How Funny!!:-)

Excellent to hear you had your Sunday morning amble to the pub (while your steely wife labours over the kitchen stove cooking your roast?)
Memo to me:
Instead sitting here talking to you lot, I should have been walking to church. To listen to the bells.

Just been cut off by violent thunderstorm with heavy rain. Flash flooding fairly nearby...scary. Thunder still going on so we might disappear again suddenly.

But lovely sunshine down in Weymouth at the sailing.
Mmmmmm.
Results:
Brit Ben gold. Great Dane silver.
Very close, exciting finish.

Nuff said by me:-)

Made it all so much more special, it was nice to see the crowds cheering Federer's great shots too, typical british crowd, we do love to cheer :)
