The London Olympics 2012

I was so sorry that all possible viewing points of the Equestrian Arena from the National Maritime Museum were closed off to the public yesterday. However, I did enjoy a long natter with one of the Olympic Ambassadors who was guarding access to the covered walkway to the Queen's House.

Inside the Museum, I was impressed with the display of a typical sailing boat used in the Olympics. Sorry, I don't know which class of boat.

BTW, hats off to the Military who were running the scanning machines at the entrance to the NMM. They are doing a great job, and with good humour. :) :) :)

BBTW. The UK has a proud maritime history. IMHO it's fitting that we are doing so well on the water ;)

Talk about DRAMA!!!
First in the mens 4 rowing, I gather a little sliding clip under the seat of a Brit got stuck, throwing him off the back of it. Yes, some WD40 would have been handy but instead they stopped the race, went over to the side, & still sitting in the boat, he was merely handed a screw driver to tighten it up a bit......, then he pushed it back under him & they rowed back to the re-start.

This is a cutting edge (ha!), state of the art, hi-tech boat that costs THOUSANDS...
Completely Surreal:-):-):-)

But they were pipped to the line by Denmark in a very close, exciting race. The Brit pair are now completely distraught, so sad for them.

Men GÃ… DANMARK!!!

A lovely change to hear the Danish Anthem.

Before anyone else thinks it, yes, I pull both ways...
(though I said it meself, that's really quite good here:-))

We have changed our flag to celebrate...

Richard, your photos are such a big treat. There is so little shown on the TV of this sort of general scene around and about. Difficult to try & imagine how places lie and feel on the ground.

Very interesting about those high camera wires. They can be seen in some of the TV shots but they don't say anything about them. Have already wondered how long some must be--to run the length of the rowing water, 1000metres for instance??? (mind boggling!--my ropes were rejected during the qualifications--issues of health & safety, they said, the colours might dazzle the judges...:-))

Need to go, back later to look at the rest.

Those rowing cameras span 2000metres, I saw Steve Redgrave talking about them, apparently it's the longest of its kind in the world!

Congrats to Canada! Hadn't realised they hadn't got a gold till now. The trampolining was an eye-opener--the hit-roof-heights they get up to--looks so dangerous:-(

To be honest, for me, the medal tally is an irrelevance; it's the game & the playing of it that matter. Some athletes are brave to even consider entering (thinking at this moment of our swimmer Rebecca Adlington).
The whole heavy hype about the medal count seems to get in the way.

But Canada just have another bronze in the cycling:-)

Erm, we've also just done Quite Well in the women's team pursuit.................................:-):-):-)

Of course-- there are 4 lots of 500, which must mean 2000 metres...:-)
Staggering!

I saw Boris on the news. It was pretty funny. Congrats Canada--our beautiful neighbor to the north.

Jessica Ennis just won gold in her heptathlon :D. So pleased for her. We might just be in with a shot at gold for the mean long jump too! Turning out to be a good day for the British.
