WOW..............
It's now Velodrome GOLD Queen Pendleton for King:-):-):-)

"Doing a Pendleton" will now join the meaningful expressions in this household's dictionary!

Really? Well well. However, poor Rebecca Adlington got a bronze. Expectations of a gold were too much.

Well, hubbie came home from walking the K9 gang and said Toksy "Did a Pendleton".

He meant she must have spotted a darned squirrel (no rabbits there in the beech trees) and launched a fast & furious charge from way behind, streaked past him & disappeared into the distance. That's what Pendle does on her bike, every race:-)

Sad for Rebecca:-(

This Saturday, Ian Millar, from Perth Ontario will be competing in his record setting 10th Olympic games as an equestrian in the individual and team jumping competitions. His first Games were the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Thanks for the tip off, Scifan.

BTW, I visited Greenwich. I couldn't see any thing of the action, apart from spectators at the top of the grandstands waving madly. The swell of cheering at times (2.45 pm or thereabouts) filled Greenwich.

Photos to follow. I'm currently downloading them onto the PC.

The PC has woken up and is performing well now. So, here are those promised pictures of Greenwich Park and the O2 Arena taken a year or two ago.

I believe most of the park is closed to the public during the Equestrian events. However, I will apply some lateral thinking etc and try to get some views from inside the Maritime Museum etc. Fingers X'd.....

Richard--absolutely beautiful pics! Your country is beautiful!!

Congrats to all the countries represented in the Olympic competition...for just being there. That in itself is a huge achievement!

I'm just watching the triathlon......Hyde Park looks amazing, the HD coverage is really doing it justice.

I wonder though, which bright spark decided to give every athlete the same colour swim caps so it's almost impossible to tell who they are and in which position?

It looks like a first equal for seeded and Switzerland in the triathlon

Yes, the Swiss was declared first and Swede second after a photo finish, which is unheard of in the triathlon.
There were literally no milliseconds in it-- the board at first said 0.00 between them!

The triathlon route was an inspired one, round some of the best London views. The cycling round Buckingham Palace (home of the abseiling you-know-who) looked stunning. Have they re-painted all the gold round there too?

We've just got 2 golds for the rowing! Amazing results. For our sitting down relaxing sport!:-)
One of the pair of women just said "I know this isn't the Oscars but can I thank..." They are both gobsmacked with the shock of winning! Bless:-)

It could only happen to Boris Johnson, Mayor of London with the eyes of the world upon us!

This was at Victoria Park in London at an event with big screens showing the Olympics.

yes, fantastic. . . .Then . . talkig about food . . . I went to make a hame cheese and pickle roll, Got back to my seat as a drama was unfolding in the men's pairs rowing. A seat in the GB boat had broken.

They are about to restart the race. I must watchthis, than write my Greenwich visit missive.

They are off - clean and fast. All eyes on the bow seat... I would have expected them to carry some WD40 for running repairs, save the rowing :)

OK, yesterday, I visited Greenwich to see how much I could of the action. I went by bus & then Docklands Light Railway.

The walk into Greenwich was easy. Half of the road there was turned over to pedestrians. Huge barriers kept us on the straight & narrow.

Once in Greenwich, I scouted around and soon realised that I would see nothing of the action. So, I decided to report with views from above, around the scene. The ticket holders could get to the venue without mixing with road traffic. Temporary bridges cross the main Greenwich Lower Road. I had tantalising views of the grandstands, and appreciated the roars from that direction as the GB? riders appeared to compete.

The overhead camera is suspended on cables which stretch between a pylon by the Royal Observatory and somewhere North of the river. The pylons must be a mile apart! Imagine setting up that lot!

All around the place, modes of transport await. The BMWs and aircraft carrier HMS Ocean. The views of the N Greenwich Arena and the cable cars over the Thames were clear.

I was sorry not to have seen much of the actual horsey events, apart from one real sitting down event. LAW - Listen and Watch.
