What's new

The London Olympics 2012

Giggle. You are sooo funny, Stranding! But yes, you are so right. We love making fun of ourselves. That's why some people don't get our humour.
Sitting down sports! Hee Hee.

Oh no--SO sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I certainly didn't mean you to think you were rude. Not at all!

NO WAY are any of us "offended" by comments like that "sitting down sports" one. It was very likely another Brit who made it. And we think it's funny. Really!

We are "rude" to our friends most of the time. The ruder we are, the more friendly we probably are:-)
We are VERY odd folk over here, you know. We often say the complete opposite of what we mean. And only we know when we actually mean it and when we don't...and we don't always get it right.

So how can anyone else understand what on earth we are on about???

No matter. As long as everyone else in the world is willing to make allowances for our peculiarities and never, ever believe anything we say, all's well with the world:-):-):-)

Hee hee. I may have to play that Simon & Garfunkel song about the most peculiar man! :D

Yup, we Brits are definitely odd ane the more eccentric, the better. So long as the world laughs with us. That's great ;) :)

Now, I've lost my train of thought. :(

Did anyone read about how NBC went about broadcasting the opening ceremony? It upset a lot of people. However, they have to cover time zones, and claw back some of the fees for airing the ceremony with ad breaks.

That's fair enough. What got up folks collective noses was the way in which they tried to claim the recorded playback was "live". Exactly whom are they trying to kid?

The Olympic Legacy

I have some suggestions for the future of the London Olympic park, after the show is over...
1. Create an an Olympics museum with cinema, displays etc.
2. Allow people to try the facilities - to encourage them into sport.
3. Have special tours / tryouts by educational establishments.

These ideas are in addition to the obvious ones.

However, please do not demolish the stadium.
That is not in the spirit of the Olympic Ethos.

I've missed out on all this kerfuffle. How silly of them. Would have had a nose job too.

It can already be confusing when you are supposedly watching it live (i mean here, with our wall-to-wall coverage) whether bits are "live" or brief playbacks, especially if you miss spotting the fleeting "playback coming up" signal....

...like when you're only using one eye because the other one is iPadding this "Olympics" thread....:-)

(Ha! I'd like to see a video playback of that please!!)

Good for her! She is clearly a lady of determination & steely resolve. Probably eccentric, too:-)

No. It's me who wants them. I'll pay too. Not asking for freebies. Whatever it takes.

While I'm out, please put your foot on the back wheels of anyone we wouldn't approve of? (I won't twitter that!)

NB: Remember this is someone who comes from 'erne 'ill...From the time when "velodromes" were called cycle tracks, no nonsense.

We walked past that twice daily on the way to Dulwich Hamlet Infants/juniors. That was all during the 1948 Games of course. Happy Days:-):-):-)

Our favourite thing to do is putting up the V sign and saying two very loudly! Two golds! Yippee! We can be so silly!
