What's new

The London Olympics 2012

Some will be taken down to be reused in other parts of the UK. The velodrome and swimming pool continue to be used after modification.

The future os the stadium is uncertain. Hence the petition activity. The upper tier of the stadium will go. One building is to be used at Rio for 2016.

The BMX track will be adapted and become a feature in a linear cycling network.

The Olympic legacy promise is to keep facilities.

There will be an Olympic museum on site. ( see one of my long posts with photos). I do hope enough will be done to attract people to Stratford, E London to help the local economy.

So glad to hear that most if not all will be preserved for future use. Just hate seeing millions of dollars spent for the Olympics on and than afterwards it just sits there without use. Nice to hear that some of London's legacy will reach Rio for the next Olympics.

Thanks, Richard for the explanation.

Not sure about the red but I am watching the same thing as you.

The Archangel

Could red paint be heavier because iron oxide is used as a pigment in many red paints?

The Archangel

I'm watching a bit erratically-other stuff going on-so wondered if I missed it. Will do some post-olympic research.

Don't think I'd be any good at this...mountain biking, I mean:-)

May be, but I have no chemical knowledge, just what I've noted & recorded (in my own textile work) along the way.

During the swimming contests, mention has been made of Chlorinated water.

This isn't really accurate. In the 1980s public swimming pools switched from using chlorine, with it's discolouration of water and swimmers' reacting to chlorine (eye sting) to using Sodium hypochlorite which leaves the water cleaner and clearer. The quality of water at the Olympic swimming pool indicates that Sodium hypochlorite is used in the purification process.

Now, then.
Playing with a nice long ribbon on a stick, making pretty patterns in the air...is much more my cuppa tea!!!

This section of the "rhythmic gymnastics" looks quite easy... and it's not a sitting-down sport either.

Ohhhhhhhhhh.

Well, perhaps that leg straight up in the air stuff isn't quite as easy as it seemed at first...
Forget that!!!

Interesting. Why then, do most swimming pools use chlorine then?

I'm not sure. The pools I dealt with were in Greenwich. I thought there was a campaign to switch from chlorine. Perhaps it was a voluntary scheme.

The men's 5,000m final is going well. The pace looks comfy with Mo teasing the field and the crowd going berserk!

5 laps to go.... ... ..
