The openness of android...

Why is it that every article I post is hailed as me being an android hater? Frankly, im getting sick of this. I feel as if I should stop posting simply because I am attacked everytime I do by certain members of this forum.

I HAVE an android phone. I sell them all day. I have NO issue with the OS. what I DO have issues with is people constantly comparing ios to android. It's like comparing apples and oranges. The reason I posted that article was so people could get some insight.

Enough is enough. Seriously.

It's funny to me. I have noticed that..lmao every time one or the other posts something about android, the other comes in to either defend or bash android. Or at least seems that way. You even said u have an android phone so that can't be the case, truly. I think peoples opinion's or love for technology is great. From both sides. I knew about And used Android b4 I got my iPad n loved it. But once I got the iPad, I never messed around with Android again on my phone.
Even b4 I bought the iPad, I had purchased an Archos 5 Internet tablet that ran android. I didn't even have it 24 hrs before I returned it. Reason being their wifi protocols sucked and couldn't even connect to my wire tethering from my phone. It didn't support the infrastructure mode of wifi or something. It was like only ad-hoc. Anyways that tethering at the time was my only form of Internet access so that Archos was useless to me without being able to connect. I had in my mind the IPad was gonna be the last resort tablet I'd get if I couldn't find or get the other things I wanted. Like the lenovo laptop that the screen flipped around and turned into a tablet. That other Lenova that the screen comes off and turned into a tablet wasn't out yet. I truly researched many months on tablets. I didn't end up getting anything as the choices were driving me nuts..lol then came my birthday and I realized, even with the closed style of Apple, the iPad was what would fit my needs. I got the iPad n July as a late bday gift. I've been loving the experience and this forum ever since. I use to be an apple hater but the iPad changed my train of thought. My friend, who loves apple everything, was shocked n mad at me when I told n showed him I got an iPad..lmao. He was like WTF as much as u bashed apple n favor of android n now u done changed the game up. I was Cheesing.
I'm like this I'd rather know how to use various OS thn just be tied done to one. Competition is needed to move the industry forward and for innovative ideas to come forth. This is an apple/iPad forum but there are members also who like Android also. Those Android users have to know also that trying to bash apple or make android look good in an iPad forum will cause some backlash. Same thing if I was n android forums talk in about how great apple iOS is or will be. Lol xoom could have given the ipad2 a decent run if they would've only waited and polished up the device, like Samsung has done. I'm sure the new Galaxy tablet is going to be nice. For now, I'm enjoying my ipad1 to the fullest ;-)

Try going to Howardforums and posting that Freebird,if you want to see real personal attacks and the fanboys on both sides come out.
I love Android,I like Apple. Both have their advantages and neither is worth arguing or getting upset over

Well ~ you should have seen this one coming. Happens all the time with certain topics. After all ~ this is an iPad Forum so threads like these are going to be very opinionated.

On the other hand ~

Keep this thread civil folks ~ we are watching.:)

Perhaps your original post could have been worded differently. You really made it sound like the author of the article was revealing a hidden FACT rather than just their opinion of a definition.

We have five iOS devices in our house and NO Android devices so I don't consider myself an Android fanboy but your post really sounded like a iOS zealot attacking Android.

Obviously that isn't the case...I just wanted to explain why you were perhaps responded to harshly.

As others have said: Keep posting. This is a fairly tame board and your posts are appreciated.

Because nearly every time you post something about Android, its full of "subtle" digs and full of inaccurate information, to put it VERY lightly. I do the same thing with people who make things up about iOS and the iPad on XDA-Developers. There is no need to make things up.

Yes, the article is critical of Android. But when you see what is happening in sales of tablets, it is apparent that Google needs to rethink it's basic plan. Design one OS that fits all devices, and limit the issues that are created with manufacturers customizing. Create a standard method of certifying apps, and have all the app retailers subscribe to the certification. People can take on risky apps if they want, but their chance of suing the major players will die if they have any un-certified apps loaded. Most people will welcome a risk free app program.

The OS can be flexible in that they can have modules that do higher functions. For example, make Flash compatibility a module that requires manufacturers to meet certain performance minimums. Then buyers will not be upset when their $200 tablet cannot do everything a $600 tablet can.

It is one thing to attack Android to be negative, but if we attack it, we should also present what alternatives should be considered. It is like those who attack the iPad for no flash or USB port. Since it will never happen, what purpose is there in bringing it up ad naseum?

I don't think that is what android needs. The reason that the tablet market has yet to take off lies on motorola. They rushed a mediocre tablet to market to beat the ipad and priced it ridiculously high. Other tablet will launch over the next few month that do not have the high pricepoint and do not have the issues of the xoom.

The last thing google needs to do is start restricting apps like apple does.

It is not restricting apps, but offering a mechanism that allows a degree of comfort to the users. And don't blame Motorola for the fact that they told Google they needed something by a deadline and Google failed to deliver a complete product. This is the advantage that Apple has with controlling hardware, software, and applications.

Imagine iOS in a Panasonic phone and you've got Android inside Moto. Moto, crap and junk all are 4 letter words that mean the same thing to me.
Apple has that advantage over all other OSs , quality control from top to bottom. If it sucks ( like non dried glue in iPad2s) only Apple is to blame and only Apple needs to be contacted to get it fixed.

That is a HUGE advantage, and they usually do it VERY well. The iPad is an example of that. I prefer Android OS's but DAMN if I am not continually impressed by Apple's hardware choices.

I just had a customer walk out of our store after discussing this issue with me. He said if he didn't have to jailbreak his iphone to get widgets, it would be perfect. I agree. Widgets are the one thing IOS could really benefit from. I love widgets on my android phone and even a little bit of customizable options would probably make me switch simply because I hate how bogged down my phone gets.... and the battery life. God, I have to have a charger with me even at work >. >

Naw. Samsung does it too. And the nexus s bootloader is locked too.

Why every time there is an article attacking Android do I not even need to look at the username of the OP to know who it is?. Yea, the Nexus S bootloader is "locked" alright. Here is how to unlock it:

Unlock Bootloader:
1. Open command prompt
2. Type 'adb reboot bootloader'
3. Type 'fastboot oem unlock'
4. Use volume keys to select 'yes, unlock bootloader'
5. Use power button to select option
6. Done!

Its made to be unlocked. And just to clarify, "they" as in Google, do not lock ANY bootloaders. That is the OEM's that do that, which is fully within their rights. If you built a phone and installed Android on it, there is zero need for a locked bootloader. Android itself IS an open platform. What OEM's and Carriers do with the OS after Google releases the SDK is beyond Google's control. They are not Apple. They don't want to have control from the top down. They produce an OS and then everyone is free to do whatever they want with it. So the fact that a device (nook color) that was released with Android 2.1 can have Android 3.0 loaded onto it by a few 16 year olds who tinker with the code tells me its a fairly open OS.

If you want to quibble about the definition of "open" as the author of this seems to want to do, fine. This all stems from them not releasing Honeycomb's source yet, even though the Xoom is being sold. The reason they aren't releasing the code is because it was obviously rushed to get that pile of garbage on the market, and you don't build upon garbage code. They are fixing it before they release it, which is the right move.

Why is it that android defenders always differentiate between rooting an android device and jailbreaking an iOS.....is there really any difference?

That is something that I have never found all that useful is Widgets. When they first became a part of OSX, I thought, now I can see what all the hoopla is about. After many tries, I don't bother with them anymore. Now I have read that they are a resource hog. Doesn't matter to me, but it is like Flash and other minor features that I will never care about, nor miss.
