MacWorld reports that the Washington Post has today launched its iPad app. Just as with The New York Times iPad app that was released last month, the Post’s app is free to download initially, but on February 15, 2011, it will become a paid app. According to MacWorld, the iPad app is definitely a step up from the iPhone version, which it says is little more than a $2 RSS reader for Washington Post headlines. The iPad app has a redesigned interface, which is meant to make it look more like a newspaper, and also offers videos and a Live Topics board that mixes headlines with Twitter and Facebook conversations. And as you can see from the above screenshot, it has some really beautiful photographs too!

In order to view content on the app you’ll have to either have an existing account with the Washington Post, or sign up for one via the in-app procedure.

You can download the Washington Post app for free here.
