AppleInsider reports today that Apple CEO Tim Cook has given a new interview today in which he says that iPhone users with worn-out batteries will soon have the option to disable the built-in throttling function that has been the cause of much controversy, and a battery replacement scheme, over the past few weeks.
Speaking to ABC News at Apple’s data center in Reno, Nevada, Cook said that the new feature will be included in a developer beta that will be released next month, with a public release soon after.
Back in December, Apple announced that a forthcoming iOS update would include a new feature that would enable the user to check if their phone’s battery condition was affecting its performance. Cook stated today that the new feature he is talking about would be in addition to this new battery health tool.
“We will tell somebody, saying, ‘We’re reducing your performance by some amount in order to not have an unexpected restart,’” Cook told ABC News. “And if you don’t want it, you can turn it off. Now we don’t recommend it, because we think that people’s iPhones are really important to them, and you can never tell when something is so urgent.”
