TIPS AND TRICKS - for those of us who don't know!

Just found another thing out. It was annoying me that when entering info in my contacts, there wasn't a space for a home number to go. If you touch and hold the bit where it says eg, iPhone, a new menu appears where you can choose from lots of other descriptions including home. Each of the data entry headings can be touched to reveal other choices.

Is there a setting that will change ALL contacts to the new title ?

I always find difficulty getting to a particular place in a line of text, particularly the beginning of a word.

Has anyone got a tip for making this easy ?

Yes, place your finger in the approximate area and do not lift until you see a magnified area just above where you are touching. You will also notice the blue cursor moving along the text. Just locate where you want the cursor placed and lift your finger. See the screen shot for an example.

Like when, say, typing a reply in iPad forums? If you hold your finger down a small magnifying window will pop up allowing for greater finesse in placing the cursor.

Thanks for that. I have often wondered to what use the magnifying glass could be put. Now I know, and yes, it certainly makes replying to iPad forum items much easier.

As a further point on cursor positioning, I have an app called Daily Notes, which by the way is great. In this app, when the keyboard is displayed there are also several special keys at the top of the keyboard, one of which inserts tabs, but two of them actually move the cursor back and forward. SO useful.

I guess this is a silly question, but is there any way of getting this to work in other apps, such as this forum ?

Unfortunately, no. We are "stuck" using the default keyboard. At most, you can type what you want in the other app, then copy/paste it into the forum.

Too much work, for me, so I just fuss quietly to myself... :)

Okay, now this was a kewl find...

In iOS 5.x - have the icons wiggling cause you're either deleting an app or moving them around. Instead of pressing the home button to stop the wiggling, pull down the Notification Center. The icons immediately stop wiggling.

You don't even have to let go of the Notification Center tab (and thus have to send it back up by tapping outside of it), you can just make a down/up motion without lifting your finger.

Found this by accident ... hope it entertains you as much as I. :)

And there I was, thinking that the one in that needed to be done to make the button obsolete on the iPad was a way of stopping the wiggling. Thanks for that!

I think this is a new one, when you are entering mail addresses in the mail ap, if you press & hold the period, you are offerered all manner of short-cut terminators.... (give it a try, you will get my meaning)

This happens with most keys.

Help

I downloaded the new Iphoto for ipad. And man it is nice to work with.

But Now I have move some pictures from my Mac to the Ipad, edited them, and want them back on my Mac.

I would like them to be copied into the folder from where they came.

overwriting the old version of the pictures.

Is this possible?

I am not using Iphoto on the mac, but picasa!
