TIPS AND TRICKS - for those of us who don't know!

Cool. Love learning this stuff. Thanks.
Does everyone know that in ABC, pausing on or slightly pressing keys reveals a hidden layer? Press ! And in a second you'll get an apostrophe; press ? and there's a quotation mark. No toggling to ?123 for these frequent punctuation marks. And best of all, if one wants to insert an é or ç in a French word - just lean on the letter, and all the accents show up! You can write cañon and Tannhäuser and Rhône easy peasy! Forgive me if this is old hat...

Certainly not old hat. There is so much on here to learn. One handy thing I found is the currency symbols. It's handy to be able to type £ or € by holding down the dollar symbol. Beats having to resort to typing GBP or EUR.

To read a forum in Safari and not have to click "next" each time to change pages, insert Page Zipper in your Mac's toolbar ,then on your iPad , go to Settings and open "Always show toolbar". It's terrific ! Here is a link :

Fantastic tip from early in the thread that is worth bumping. It is a pity this can't be used in the iPF app where you currently have to hit the next page button 64 times to get through this thread! It is better to read it in safari with the zipper working. I have previously used a similar plug in for Firefox on my laptop. I found it took a couple of goes to install page zipper because it is a bit of a manual operation but it is then very simple to use.

Ps. Unfortunately it wouldn't let me repost the link as this is my first post.

The first thing I learnt was to double tap on the up arrow for caps lock. I also like the fact youncan press and hold the $ key to get symbols for other currencies.

Ok i found this out yesterday, so apologies if this been posted aldready. This is regarding the scrubbing rate when one is watching youtube video or listening to songs from the ipod app. The scrubbing rate is the bar on the top which can be used to fast foreward or rewind a video or song. Put your finger on the bar and is shows up like in the 1st picture below. With the finger on the bar, if you pull it down the the scrubbing rate changes. This unfortunately dont work on the bbc layer app. The stages are high speed scrubbing, half speed scrubbing, quarter speed and fine speed scrubbing

Hold your finger on the black bar at the very top of the screen (eg where the time shows) and pull down. It lists all your new notifications. I found this while playing with the scrubbing rate discussed in the previous post.

It was bothering me that my gmail was not downloading automatically. So I went into settings/ mail, contacts and calendars. There I found that gmail cannot be set up to push - it has to be fetched. Mine was set to fetch manually, so it only loaded new messages when I opened the mail app. I set it to fetch every 15 mins and now I am waiting to see what happens. I thought this was worth posting as it is somewhat obscure in the guide.

Haven't had a chance to read all 65 pages but here's a new one I learned on the iPhone recently that should work on the iPad too (don't get mine until next week)

While shooting video, hit the sleep and power button (like taking a screenshot). This will take a still photo while doing video.

If you are interested in printing out a list of your apps. In iTunes, select Apps under Library, select the first icon to the right of the Apple logo in the center top, select File at top right, select print, then select song listing, and then select OK. Then print. I wanted a list before I move over to my new iPad.
