TomTom has previewed an update to its iOS app at CES, which includes Facebook and Twitter integration, enabling users to navigate to friends, places and events more easily, making TomTom’s app the first to use social networks as a source for turn-by-turn navigation. The app can automatically plan routes using information from Facebook events, places and friends, and drivers can also use the app to share their destination and arrival time on Twitter and Facebook and via email and text.
"According to recent studies, the vast majority of iPhone users use Facebook on their iPhone" says Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director Consumer at TomTom. "By integrating Facebook features into our TomTom App we make navigating to places, events and seeing friends even easier."
The TomTom iOS app, which will be available in Q1 2012, will have the latest and most accurate maps preloaded, with no need for a mobile signal or data plan. Free daily map changes from the TomTom community will also be available via Map Share. IQ Routes will provide reliable arrival times at all times of the day, and HD Traffic will power vital information regarding the quickest routes through traffic, with more coverage and more updates than any provider. The app even boasts seamless integration with contacts, photos, music, email and calendar.
