Tray disappeared....? IPad 2

Hi everyone, my tray thing at the bottom of my home screen has disappeared, I have no idea why, Ive not changed any settings at all. Ive done a hard reset and no change, I am unable to back up my iPad and connect as my laptop is battered. Any ideas?? Good job I downloaded Chrome app the other day cos Safari is in my tray and wouldnt have been able to get on here.
