Trouble deleting photos

Some photos in the Photos app do not appear with the trash can to use for deletion of photo. Is this unusual, if so how do you delete them? My wife somehow got them into the photo app from photos attached to an email. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Photos that were synchronised to your PC or Mac cannot be deleted from the iPad directly. They need to be deleted first from the PC (or moved) and the iPad resychronised. Only photos that were received by some other means on the iPad (and were not subsequently sychronised) can be deleted directly on the iPad.
