Unable to comment on certain websites

Hi,
I am a fairly frequent commenter on some major newspaper sites, i.e. Chicago Tribune, New York Times. I have no problem posting on either from my computer, but I cannot post on the Tribune from my iPad. The keyboard never pops up when I put the cursor in the comment box. Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you,
John

Some web sites do not recognize or play well with the Safari browser on the iPad.

The only workaround (if you'd call it that) is to get a different browser at the App Store. A lot of people here like either Atomic Web browser or iCab Mobile, though there are many. With a different browser, you have the option of setting the browser to broadcast a different ID (for want of a better description). IOW, you can use the browser to say that you are using Firefox, for example. This will "fool" the site you are at to allow you to post.

Yeah, I know, it's a pain. But, until all web sites recognize mobile browsers...

Hope this helps.

That rarely works. The other browsers use the same engine as Safari. Changing browser ID is good for avoiding Mobile optimized pages. It won't help at all if you are having problems with the standard desktop page.

If you are a member of a site and it offers a choice of text editors in its options (like this one does), you can choose a more basic HTML version that will almost certainly work. However most blogs don't give you a choice.

In those cases the Flash capable browsers (Puffin, Skyfire, iSwifter) or maybe Opera will probably work. Best reason to keep one of these on your iPad, as far as I'm concerned.

I downloaded iSwifter and Opera but not any of the pay to use suggestions. Opera let me see the keyboard and type in my comment, but when I tried to sign in it wouldn't let me, it basically hung up. iSwifter worked! (although the keyboard is not as user friendly as normal with other browsers)
Thanks again!
