Upgrading to iOS 8

Hello everybody.
I have an iPad 2 16 Gb and it is currently on iOS 6. I haven't upgraded it because I'm always concerned about it slowing down with the newest upgrades.
However, recently it's become almost unusable. The Facebook app for this version as well as Safari both crash almost every time I use them.
How are your experiences using iOS 8 on the iPad 2? Should I upgrade? I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to do it, but would like some feedback to make sure I'm making the right decision.
Thank you.

My daughter's iPad 2 has the latest software version installed, iOS 8.3, and there are no problems.

As you intend to update from iOS 6, I'd recommend using iTunes (computer) to do this. Reset your device afterwards. This can remove glitches you'd experience otherwise, and it won't change settings or remove data.

To reset, press and hold Home and Power button until you see the Apple logo. Then let go of both. The iPad will power up on it's own.

Hope that helps.

In addition, with such a major update, sometimes things need to settle down after the update before performance reaches optimum levels.
