Usb? NO CHANCE!

There is no problem what so ever.
Just see all those small connectors on Cell phones or Cameras.
All Apple will need is a small female connector or even using the current one, and a special adapter cable with a regular USB female on the other side and a small male connector on the iPad side.
And it can even be a device like the one use for Camera flase memory that you can put on a special adapter connected to the iPad.

Wowzer ! I should know this! But what about a cd player. Hehe, now that would be difficult! Would like to see what ipad 3 is like now!!

Creating a DCIM folder is a good idea, but the photos still have to be properly named. The photos app will ignore any image, which doesn't follow the normal IMG_1234.jpg naming structure.

movies do play, but you have to name them accordingly also, and they need to be in mp4 format, and in the same folder as the photos, and you play them via the photo app
