Volume problems

Hi,

I'm James from Ireland. Delighted with my new iPad (August)

My only gripe is the volume has recently started to cut out and I am having trouble getting it back.

The entire thing goes mute in all applications and the volume toggle doesn't affect it, the system isn't muted using the settings or the mute button available at the bottom of the screen (following a double tap of the home key)

Sometimes hard resets work, other times turning it off and on, other times playing with the mute and sound settings works. Mostly, I'm getting an ulcer.

Anybody have any more specific fixes?

Thanks,
James

Other then a possible hardware problem, which I think I've heard of before on some iPad 2's (also weird volume issues), I might suggest turning off Bluetooth (if you use it) it's possible it's trying to grab a headset or speaker box (again, if you've set something up once). You may be in for a trip to an apple store. Search these threads for volume issues, I know there've been a few.

Hello Jams... - welcome to the forum! :)

Seems like you've already gone through my recommendations, i.e. check the volume control on the upper right side, make sure your volume switch is on, and also check your 'Settings' and the multitasking bar - if all of these seem to be correctly set and you are having problems w/ multiple apps, then this may be a hardware issue w/ the iPad - since a recent purchase (and not sure if you bought this locally or by mail order?) - I'd probably take the device back to an Apple store for a possible replacement - good luck!

thanks,

For some reason it has sorted itself out.

I don't know how, or if, I sorted it or if it is going to happen again.

Hi James - glad that your sound is back & hope that it stays that way!

Not sure what the problem may have been but good luck - Dave :)
