Hi, All,

Wanted to upgrade to iOS7, but I get a message saying it needs 4GB storage and I don't have enough free memory. Went to the storage management. It does say that I only have 478 MB free. The odd thing is that it says that there are 12 GB used, but when I sum up all the apps in the list, it only gets to 7GB. So where are the missing 5GB?

Thanks,

Roy

The rest are consumed by the software(iOS)

I thought about that, but I assumed that is the difference between the 12GB appearing as used and the 16GB the iPad is supposed to have. Not so?

Do you have any photos, videos, stored messages, etc.?

Photos, which indeed account for 4GB, but that's included in the 7GB I mentioned earlier.

Thanks,

Try this : 1. Connect your iPad to your PC.
2. Open iTunes.
3. At the bottom, you see a bar, which shows how much memory individual classes of objects like apps, photos etc occupy. It may help you to solve your problem.
You will always find 2-3 or lesser number of GBs less as they are occupied by the iOS.

Sorry for being difficult, but I still don't get it. I did as suggested by abababababab. The bar says 4.65 GB photo - ok. 15.8MB books - ok. 1.59GB Other - no idea what that means, and I'd like to know, but for the sake of this discussion - ok. And it say 53 apps with a total of 6.09 GB - ok. BUT - if "Other" means the OS, then the total including the OS is 12.73, and then where are the missing 3.27 to get to 16GB? and if "Other" does not mean the OS - then: a. What does it mean?; and b. Does the OS take the full missing 3.27?

Thanks for your help,

Roy
