Hey everyone! I bought an iPad at the Apple store with WiFi and a data plan. My question is, if I've already paid those $15-20 for the data plan, why do I have to put my credit card information when I activate the cellular data account?

Mods: If this is not the right place to post my question, please excuse my ignorance and feel free to put this thread where it needs to be!

You need to create an account on iTunes in order to register your iPad and that is totally different than your 3g plan.

Yes, I did that. My question didn't have anything to do with registering the iPad. I was talking about activating the data plan that I already paid for. I apologize if my wording was not clear.

My question still stands: Did I pay $15 for the iPad just to be 3G capable, or did I actually pay for the data plan? I mean it says quite clearly on that placard next to the iPad being showcased that it goes towards the data plan... I just don't want to pay again for something I already paid for at the Apple store.

That does sound weird. I didn't activate at the store but via the ipad a few months later. I know you have to be careful about changing/canceling plans so I wonder if you'll end up being double charged. I'd try to call and find out the deal.

I bought mine online, so there was no mention of that. I would check back with the store. If they were offering some kind of promotion, you'll probably need to do it through them. I am not aware of any such promotion at the stores though.

If AT&T is requiring your credit card, which I am reading into your statement, it is so they can auto charge your card monthly.
