I have a strange problem. I set up my email while I was at work on my ipad2. Then I came home and after that time never have taken my iPad to work. At home I have a wireless router. I can surf the web fine. But there is no wifi icon on my iPad. It ha disappeared. Also in the settings if I try to turn the wifi on it does not stay on but Internet connection works fine. I don't have the 3G iPad 2. What is going on?

Been having the same problem as well. Seem like the iPad drops the signal. Bought the iPad a week ago at Target and running iOS 4.3.3. How about you, what iOS is yours on?

Anyone else having this issue.

I would try backing up my data and having the iPad reset to factory settings before going any further.

But how is the Internet working. Is it a problem with just the wifi icon? And if I set it to on position in the settings it slides right back to off. May be wifi is actually on but the icon does not show, it has simply disappeared. If I set it back to factory settings I will have to set up the email again.

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

I have 4.3.3 version and I just got this it is less than a week old. I just notice that it has a wifi address assigned? It shows up under "about".

Well for me it's random. Unless I try to restore but I haven't had it for week and already having this issue.

I know the reason but if I posted, this place up would become the biggest uproar it wouldn't be worth it :D

I just powered it off and then turned it back on and the wifi icon has reappeared! Thanks for that suggestion. Actually why does one need to care if the wifi icon appears or not as long as one can get Internet? Thanks a lot though, after all we like to see everything working just right, but it is still bugging me as to how I was getting Internet even when it said the wifi was off?

It's just a glitch. A couple of days after I'd received my iPad I noticed that the top menu line was missing when I was in Mail. i.e. no WiFi, no time, no battery icon - nothing. Did the power recycle and it was back to normal and it's never happened again....
