Situation. You want to write a lot of words on the go (WOTG).

Options: MBA 11 (or 13) vs iPad 3 w/ Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover.

Which wins and why?

I'll be able to answer the question myself in a couple of weeks, but I thought maybe someone would have an opinion, and a reason for that opinion.

I picked the iPad because it is so much lighter and easier to bring along. I have not tried the specific keyboard you mentioned - I think that might be the big factor for you - if you can use the keyboard at the speed and efficiency you desire.

What I like about an iPad is that I can de-couple it from the keyboard. You can't do that with a laptop. A laptop basically takes up the space of the quarter sphere which the top of the screen and the front edge of the keyboard make. The iPad, when detacted from the keyboard, has very little volume. I think of it this way because this dictates how each may be used. While I would certainly agree that if I can only have one, I would keep the laptop because I have to earn a living...but since I have both, and I have a choice here, the real-life decision is different.

I'm going to do a head-to-head prizefight between the MBA 13 and the new iPad w/ ultra-thin KB cover.

My MBA 13 (see above) weighs a tiny bit over 3 lbs with no sleeve. My iPad 3, with Ultrathin, and inside this Hard Candy protective case weighs 2 lb, 14 oz.

Very nice look with the carbon skins, How does the ipad seem to fit in the slot on the logitech keyboard when in use? Looks great.

The iPad fits just fine in the slot, but it only goes in one way if you want to use the magnet. You probably can't tell it in this photo, but I'm holding the iPad/keyboard in with my hand and my grip is on the screen of the iPad.

Did you get a custom made skin for the back of keyboard? I may go with this set up as well , Since it doesn't seem to add much bulk to a ipad/keyboard combo as the others. Thanks in advance for replying.

Yes, I wrote to iCarbons.com and got in contract with Bruce. I bought a back cover for an iPad and they just didn't cut any holes it in. It is a bit too big on the side where the power switch is, so you'll need to trim it there.

It has been a month since I ordered the damned thing. There is still no sign they have shipped it. :(
