Well today is shaping up to be iPad 3 parts day, as MacRumors reports on several new purported iPad 3 parts that have popped up around the Internet today. Following on from the back panel pictures, another website called iLab Factory has posted shots of a 9.7-inch LCD panel made by Sharp, which is claimed to be a 2048x1536 high -res display intended for the iPad 3. The panel has three ribbon cables that are used to attach it to the circuit board. MacRumors notes that the iPad 2 only has two ribbon cables, so it’s possible that the third panel is to support the iPad 3’s higher resolution.
Cult of Mac has also obtained several supposed iPad 3 parts from repair outlet iPatch. The parts shown by Cult of Mac include a flex cable including the sleep/wake button, volume buttons and mute switch. Cult of Mac compares this part with one from the iPad 2, with the pictures showing that the layout for the new parts look very similar to the old layout, although they are designed somewhat differently. Cult of Mac also has a picture of the iPad 3’s microphone, which has a very different connector to that of the iPad 2. Cult of Mac notes that the part that seems to be most different from the previous iPad model is the Wi-Fi component, which looks very different. The iPad 3’s headphone jack is also different. To sum up, it seems that all these leaked parts photos are very much supporting recent reports that the iPad 3 will have significant internal changes in terms of processing power and screen resolution, but very little change in terms of its outer appearance.
