Before the Apple Watch unveil event from yesterday, many were wondering about its waterproof abilities. This question has been answered by Apple who said the wearable would be rated to the IPX7 waterproofing standard.
This means that you will be able to take it for a a session in the shower or when washing your hands. Also, it won't suffer damage if you will get caught in the rain, but won't be able to resist to such activities as swimming, which expose the device to water for a prolonged period. On its official webpage, the company says this:
"Users can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing [their] hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended."
Thus, according to its tech specs, the Apple Watch will be able to withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. The water resistance rating applies to each model of the watch, whether you get the Sport, Regular or Watch edition.
