Touch Arcade reports that Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links has soft launched in Japan and Australia prior to its arrival worldwide. The successor to Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generation, the first Yu-Gi-Oh! game to appear on iOS, Duel Links appears to have a lot in common with the first iOS installment of the legendary card battling series. It has the same amount of cards (more than 6,000) and the same free-to-play system with in-app payments.
One area in which the new game has greatly improved, however, is the new 3D graphics, which have replaced the previous 2D style. Fans can also look forward to extra missions that will unlock characters, and a more involved single-payer campaign.
Yu-Gi-Oh! is a popular manga that was created by Kazuki Takahashi and has been appearing in Japan’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 1996. Konami released the first console title based on the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series back in 1998, with the trading card game being released in 1999.
Yu-Gi-Oh! fans in Australia and Japan will already be experiencing all the card battling anime goodness right now, with more than 777,777 pre-registrants in Japan alone, but unfortunately, fans elsewhere will have to wait until 2017 for the worldwide launch.
