I've just noticed that if I hold my finger on any item for about 2 seconds, it allows me to move that item without the usual performance with the bottom row icons. It's not something that I do often but it does make moving stuff easier.
I assume that this change must have come with a recent update. I don't recall anyone else mentioning this.

If by 'item' you mean 'building' it's something new for me too. I posted once that I wish TribeZ rearranging style in AC, now we only lack transparent mode which would be useful

Well spotted, certainly makes moving the "furniture" around easier.

Thanks for the tip Nutty, it made cleaning up my airport a lot easier, I deleted a lot of buildings it looked a bit cramped,
